Enemy Without a Face

"Enemy Without a Face" is the forty-seventh episode of Buzz Lightyear of Star Command. It first aired on November 18, 2000 on ABC.

Overview

Team Lightyear meet two sole survivors of a 900 year long war. Little do they suspect another danger lurking among them.

Plot

The episode begins as Team Lightyear suddenly gets grabbed by a tractor beam. They crash-land on an unknown planet and meet up with two sole survivors of a 900 year long war. Buzz and Booster meet up with the Beletor and they fight because the Beletor thinks they are Krnozians. The Beletor later learns that they are not enemies and team up. Meanwhile, Mira and XR (who were separated from their teammates when XR accidentally launched the escape shuttle prematurely) meet up with the Krnozian, and they discuss the 900 year long war and how the Beletors have done despicable things. Both groups later face each other until Buzz realizes XR and Mira are working with the enemy. They argue about who is working with the enemy when the Krnozian and Beletor wrestle each other into the murky water. The Krnozian gets blasted out of the water and the Beletor follows. The Krnozian lands on the team's crashed ship, and the two punch each other until the Beletor knocks the Krnozian down.

The Beletor puts a bomb on the Krnozian and throws him to the ground. The team quickly realizes the Krnozian is going to perish, so they start to save the Krnozian against the Beletor's efforts. They take the battle armour off the Krnozian, then Booster throws it and it blows up. The Krnozian thanks Team Lightyear, and Buzz tells XR to cut the Beletor out of the suit as well. It is at this point that they discover that the Beletor is female.

XR offers the Beletor an ice pack, and the Beletor greedily grabs the ice pack from him. After she puts the pack behind her head, a strange glob falls off and she becomes more friendly. The Krnozian, now angry that the team is helping her, runs at the Beletor ready to attack when XR fires ice cubes at him. He emerges from the ice pile and another glob falls off his head.

Both the Krnozian and the Beletor admit that they both feel better and had no idea why their people were always fighting each other; now they will live in peace. As Buzz comments on the wonderful display of peace, one of the globs attaches itself to Mira, who rudely tells Buzz to shut up. Booster (who now also has a glob on his neck) tells her not to talk to him like that. Buzz thanks Booster for having his back and Booster tells him to shut it again. Mira and Booster walk back to the ship, mumbling.

On the ship, Mira starts being rude to Buzz yet again. She kicks Buzz out of his chair and starts to drive the ship. As Buzz takes control of the ship, he sees the glob on her neck and pulls it off. He then hands it to XR, who puts it in a jar. They return to Star Command, where an outbreak of the now multiplied globs have taken over everyone at Star Command, except XR because of his robotic body.

While XR thinks of a way to save everyone, Buzz, Mira, Booster and all the LGMs fight each other. After Booster tries and fails to eat him, XR uses a fire extinguisher to put out a fire, which freezes the globs on the necks of two nearby LGMs. XR thinks back to earlier when the Krnozian and the Beletor got ice on their necks and suddenly changed their moods. He then realizes that the globs must hate the cold, so he turns down the thermostat, freezing Star Command and the globs.

The globs all fall off and things go back to normal. Later, as Team Lightyear defrosts Star Command, Buzz thanks XR for saving the day, and one final glob crawls into Booster's sandwich, only to get eaten. It is unknown what happens to the globs after this.

Trivia

• Several Star Trek episodes seem to have inspired the plots of "Enemy Without a Face."
  • The plot of this episode (regarding the parasites) may be a reference to the Star Trek episodes "Operation -- Annihilate!" and "The Naked Time." In the first episode, parasites infect the inhabitants of a colony, inducing mass insanity in them. However, in contrast with "Enemy Without a Face," the colonists knew they were infected and couldn't stop themselves from acting the way they did. In the second episode, a virus unknowingly infects the Enterprise crew when they visit a Federation outpost, affecting their emotional states by removing their inhibitions. This is similar to how the parasites in "Enemy Without a Face" brought out Team Lightyear's worst selves when infected.
  • The plot of this episode (regarding the civil war between the Krnozians and Beletors, and them turning out to not only be the last of their kind but similar in appearance) may be a reference to the Star Trek episode "Let That Be Your Last Battlefield." In this episode, the two Cherons only differed slightly in their physical appearance, but it was enough to embroil them in a civil war that lasted for thousands of years that only left the two of them as survivors. However, unlike "Enemy Without a Face," the civil war was not caused by any external factors but by the Cherons' racial prejudice towards each other, and one claiming racial superiority over the other, and had no peaceful resolution.
• When Mira, XR and the Krnozian capsize into the water, bubbles can be seen in the form of a Hidden Mickey. Another Hidden Mickey can be seen when the smoke clears after Buzz and Booster are bombed.
